Although the causes of Pityriasis Rosea is unclear but the causative organism is normally considered to be a virus.
Symptoms of Pityriasis
1.Starting Phase Symptoms: The first symptoms of
Pityriasis is a large, slightly raised, scaly patch called the herald patch — on your back, chest or abdomen
2. Secondary Phase Symptoms:
Normally in the second phase of infection smaller fine, scaly spots usually appear all across your back, chest and abdomen .The fine scaly spots take the shape of a pine tree. Also smaller spots may also appear on your arms, legs and face. Formation of these rashes is also supplemented by itching sensation all through the body.
3. Color: The rash of Pityriasis normally is scaly and pink, but if you have darker skin, it may also be gray, dark brown or even black.
4. Other Signs and Symptoms:
Most of the people who suffer from Pityriasis also show additional symptoms which include respiratory problems like –

Treatment of
Pityriasis
Under normal cases Pityriasis does not last for more than four to eight weeks. The main intention behind the treatment is to control the itching. Some of the antiviral drugs that may reduce the duration of

2. Famciclovir
3. Antibiotic erythromycin
Normally itching is not big a problem as it is mild and gets cured within a day or two. However under very rare conditions itching does become a problem than the doctor might prescribe for some creams or ointments for relief .Some of the medicines that are available as prescription drugs include
1. Cetrizine
2. Fexofinadine
3. Diphenhydramine
4. Chlorpheniramine
5. Clemastine
6. Loratadine
Another method of treatment is light therapy. Here treatment is in the form of passing ultraviolet through the skin either through ultra violet light machines or through direct contact with sunlight. |
