The word Lyme disease was named after the city lyme where it was first recorded. It was the year 1975 when an unusually large number of children showed symptoms of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Although it was common in those days for a person to suffer from arthritis but in lyme the recorded numbers were hundred times more. This baffled the physicians and doctors alike. Researchers soon found that the signs and symptoms which indicated towards arthritis were actually another new bacterial infection transmitted by deers. The infection soon came to be known as the Lyme disease. Sooner the lyme disease started spreading across the whole of united states .reports of cases have been reported in almost every state, the disease remains heavily concentrated in three main areas: the Northeast, upper Midwest and northern California.

Signs and Symptoms of Rash
The biggest problem with Lyme disease is that it is very difficult to come to the conclusion that a person is suffering from lyme. A person who is suffering from lyme shows variety of symptoms. Also the types of symptoms vary from person to person .



 

Some of the Common Symptoms show is
1. Rashes: This is one of the most common symptoms of a lyme attack. Normally once a person has been attacked red bump starts appearing within a few days to a month. if you touch it you would feel warm and mildly tender. Sooner the redness expands to a full size rash. The size of the rash might differ from a small dot to something as large as 12 inches long. The rash, called erythema migrans is one of the hallmarks of Lyme disease, affecting about 80 percent of infected people.


2. Flu: Most people suffering from a lyme attack show symptoms of fever, chills, fatigue and body ache.


3. Migratory joint pain: If you do not treat the infection you might develop bouts of severe pain at the joints several weeks to months after you are infected. This pain might shift from one point to another with time.


4. Neurological problems: Untreated Lyme disease might lead to some serious neurological problems. 

 

Some of which are
1. Meningitis
2. Temporary paralysis
3. Numbness of your limbs
4. Poor muscle movement
5. Memory loss
6. Concentration lapse

Treatment of Lyme: The most common form of treatment for lyme related disorder is a regular dose of antibiotics. Normally for adults doxycycline is the prescribed drug. Other drugs normally used include amoxicillin and cefurroxime. the main purpose of these drugs is to clear the infection and prevent any further complications. Normally antibiotic courses for 14 to 21 days are recommended but most of the times 10 to 14 days are usually enough .if the complication has reached an advanced stage the doctor might also give intravenous antibiotics for 14 to 28 days. How ever the problem with intravenous antibiotics is that it carries various side affects which include lowering of white blood cell count and formation of gall stones.
