Ringworm is one of the most common forms of skin disease prevalent among the human population .the most important factor behind it is that it is easily communicable from one person to another. You would never know from whom you might have contacted the disease.
Human body believe it or not is home to several different types of bacteria and fungi. Some of them are useful to our body while some of them are harmful. There are some which gives a variety of benefits to our body while there are others which are quite deadly and can cause serious repercussions if not treated. There are several diseases caused by bacteria and fungi. One of such most common disease is ringworm. Ringworm is caused by several different microscopic organisms belonging to a group called “dermatophytes”. This family of fungus leave on the outer side of the human skin called the hypodermis. These Dermphytes can cause ringworms in several parts of the body include scalp, body, nails and feet. These ringworm causing fungi thrive on places which remain warm and moist. Hence places like groin, feet and underarm are more prone to a ringworm attack than other places of the body. Also normally Ringworm tends to enter the body through a break in the skin, such as a scratch, cut, or broken skin due to eczema.

Ringworm is not only a problem with humans only even all kinds of pets have this problem too. Since there are an enormous number of different types of fungi it is always very difficult to determine which kind of pets will have the problem and who will not.

Causes: The fungus that causes ringworms in pets can be cultured from the hair coats of normal dogs and cats also. However different pets can react to fungi differently. They might suffer from the fungal attack or might simply become a carrier of the disease to other pets and also they can transmit it to human beings also.



 

There are Three Specific Groups of Fungi that are Responsible 
Micros Porum canis 
The main sauces of this species of ringworms are cats. Specially cats with lots of hair.

Microsporum gypseum 
This species of Ringworm is generally transmitted by dogs and cats when they dig into contaminated soil.

Trichophyton mentagrophytes 
This species infects dogs and cats when they remain in the vicinity of rodents or the burrows in which these rodents normally live in.

Treatment of Ringworm in pets 
The most common form of treatment of ringworm in pets is by using the tropical shampoo theory. This method is specially effective in the case long haired pets. The procedure first involves clipping down some of the hair in order to make the shampoo wash more effective. Then the pet is washed with tropical shampoo. These shampoos will also remove infected hairs that can be source of infection to people in there vicinity.

Another method of treatment is by using specific anti fungal creams. These are specifically used in areas which have sparse growth or they have small discrete lesions. 

 

Some of the common form of these medications are
1. Clotrimazole 
2. Miconazole 
3. Chlorhexidene 
4. Ketoconazole
